Wildfires an ‘ongoing concern’ to B.C. forestry

The Vancouver Sun interviewed UBC forestry professor Lori Daniels for a story on wildfire concerns in B.C.

The province’s policy of putting out most fires had unintended consequences, including dense forests that are vulnerable to fire and pests. Letting forests burn in areas without people and homes promotes more resilient forests in the future, Daniels said.

“It seems so wasteful to let timber values to burn,” she said. “That would be the short-term cost.”
