CBC News interviewed UBC journalism school director Alfred Hermida for a story on the role of Facebook Live in broadcasting unfiltered videos as a counter-narrative to official accounts of incidents.
“The default perspective has always been from the authorities, from the police, but now we’re seeing it from the other side, and a counter-narrative emerges,” Hermida said. “It shifts the balance of power in terms of who tells the story and how public understanding is framed around it.”
