Ending self-regulation in Vancouver real estate won’t solve crisis

The Globe and Mail published an op-ed on the Vancouver housing market crisis co-authored by UBC business professor Tsur Somerville.

While the B.C. government recently proposed politics to strengthen consumer protection, Somerville and Simon Fraser University business professor Andrey Pavlov say this is not enough.

“To improve affordability, both governments and we, the public, have to make changes that address each of the different contributing factors to current market conditions: foreign capital, local demand, and constraints on supply,” they wrote.
