Roundhouse Radio spoke with UBC education professor Michelle Stack, psychology professor Anuradha Sovani from SNDT Women’s University in India, and psychiatry professor Rob Whitley from McGill University about how to improve news coverage about mental illness.
Stack discusses the importance of spreading the word about academic research in the media.
“When I have to figure out how to translate my research to diverse audiences it makes me a better researcher,” she said. “Where journalism and academics are sometimes similar is if we just talk to people that are similar to ourselves we really impoverish knowledge.”
