Heat exposure deadly in areas of poverty and more concrete

A new UBC study shows residents of low-income areas have greater risk of dying during a heat wave, reports the Vancouver Sun and News 1130.

The researchers found that 110 people died during a heat wave in 2009 in the Lower Mainland. Senior author Sarah Henderson said these findings suggest that heat exposure and social vulnerability can be a deadly combination.
