How to give your older kid more freedom

Whether a child is ready for this level of freedom depends on the child, the family and the safety of the neighbourhood, UBC professor Jennifer Vadeboncoeur, whose work focuses on human development, learning and culture, told City. She recommends giving children more autonomy in other ways, such as doing a kitchen project, if the parks aren’t safe.
