Harmful medication prescribed to seniors costs $419M a year

Steve Morgan, a UBC professor in the school of population and public health, spoke to CBC News about the cost of doctors prescribing potentially risky medications to people over the age of 65 in Canada.

The study estimates that $419 million a year is spent on these drugs.

“It’s a pattern that needs to be addressed. Doctors are very good at putting patients on new drugs but not so good at stopping by taking patients off of them,” Morgan said.
