Students work to improve product for the vision-impaired

The Georgia Straight reported on a group of UBC computer-science students who recently won first prize at the 2016 Ericsson Innovation Awards in Sweden.

Their mobile application, called SoundVision, transforms 3-D spatial information into sound, which could allow visually impaired people to “see.”

“The other competitors, we got to learn from them,” said student Karan Grover. “The award reminded us that we’re not just there to make money.”
