Stigma, shame and stoicism in men’s mental health

Dr. John Oliffe of UBC’s nursing school spoke with Roundhouse Radio on the topic of men’s mental health.

“We don’t have enough knowledge about why guys aren’t necessarily connected to services… between 20 and 50 years of age, men are less represented in term of going to see the family physician,” he said. “But then we see in every emergency room across Canada men are overrepresented…One of the things we don’t understand is how we can build services that guys would be able to take up,” he said.
