How pizza and tacos can help prevent suicide

UBC psychology David Klonsky was interviewed for a Vice story on our emotional ties to food.

In a recent case in Mexico City, it was reported that two police officers were able to persuade a suicidal man to live by offering him tacos.

Klonsky specializes in studying suicide and self-harm and said rule number one is to do whatever necessary to get a suicidal person to survive. He also said connectedness is key.

“Among people who are dealing with very high pain and hopelessness, there is still a protective factor that would prevent those people from attempting, and that is connectedness,” he said.
