Why some coral reefs thrive as others die off

CBC News reported on a study involving UBC research that found coral reefs in remote locations may sometimes be worse off than those close to human fishing communities.

Rashid Sumaila, professor and director of the fisheries economics research unit at UBC’s fisheries centre, worked on the study and said when a local community can manage a reef they rely on, they often create a system to keep outsiders from fishing there.
