Wood tower at UBC a construction game-changer

The Province reported on a new student residence being built on UBC campus that could change the architecture industry.

Brock Commons will be an 18-storey building with 17 floors made with mass timber, and the base and two cores made of concrete.

The architect working on the project said if the building is successful in inspiring more wood towers, demand would lower the costs. This would mean the ecologically-sound material could become a competitive alternative to other materials.

The story also appeared in the Times Colonist.
