Interviews with UBC’s new president

Incoming UBC president Santa Ono discussed a variety of issues in interviews with the Vancouver Sun, CBC News, Global BC News Hour (09:30 mark) and CBC Early Edition (1:29:00 mark). Ono noted that sexual assaults are a problem in many university campuses, and that he would work to ensure investigations into sex assaults are conducted fairly. He also noted that UBC has moved on past its “governance crisis” and expressed gratitude for the interim leadership of Martha Piper.

Ono’s appointment was also covered by Nikkei Voice, City News and Mingpao Vancouver. In a blog published in the Georgia Straight, UBC mathematics professor Nassif Ghoussoub called the choice of Ono a victory for UBC members and noted that the new president’s life experiences “bode well for UBC.”
