UBC economist Tom Davidoff was interviewed for a story in the South China Morning Post about how fixed-term contracts are being abused as a way to increase rents.
Davidoff was surprised to discover an unusually high increase in rental rates when he compiled Vancouver rental listings information from Craigslist for April and May.
“A glance at rents suggests they’re rising quite quickly, and that’s consistent with what I hear from industry people,” Davidoff said.
