John Metras, managing director of UBC infrastructure development, was interviewed for a Xinhua story on the huge dormitory building going up on UBC campus.
Metras said the massive use of timber to build institutional buildings is part of an “evolution”.
“We have eight other projects where we’ve used mass timber in lower-rise applications, so this is the first building at an 18-storey height,” he said.
