The Globe and Mail interviewed Chris Rea, UBC’s Centre for Chinese Research director, after China’s global ambassador to Canada wrote an opinion piece warning Canadians not to let Chinese human rights issues prevent possible cooperation.
Rea said Chinese leaders have objected to foreign criticism on the global stage and used the threat of damaged economic relations to quiet the criticism.
