A Washington Post advice column included UBC research on hugging dogs and says many media outlets misinterpreted the research.
The researcher, UBC psychology professor emeritus Stanley Coren, said hugging a dog may induce anxiety in the animal since it is wired to run and could feel trapped by a hug.
