How UBC is digging the mining industry out of a hole

BC Business highlighted the work being done by the Canadian International Resources and Development Institute–a collaboration of SFU, UBC and École Polytechnique de Montréal that’s based out of a small office at UBC.

According to the article, CIRDI aims to empower local governments and communities to get better deals for their people when mining companies arrive. One of the CIRDI projects is located in Mongolia and involves UBC researchers, Mongolian graduate students in Canada, and Mongolian government officials and community groups. It is supervised by UBC sociology professor Julian Dierkes.
