SRO tenants have 6% chance of homelessness

Research on Downtown Eastside residents by William Honer, director of the UBC Institute of Mental Health, was featured in a 24 Hours story.

Over 10 years of work, Honer found that the average resident living in a Downtown Eastside single room occupancy suite has a six per cent chance of becoming homeless.

“This is a point of contact in your system, a vulnerable time when people are coming out of a recovery house treatment program that they have a high risk for becoming homeless,” Honer said.
