Why isn’t government helping cool the housing market?

UBC business professor Tom Davidoff was quoted in a News 1130 story about the reason the government will not step in to cool the Vancouver housing market.

According to Davidoff, the successful housing market is advantageous for governments while other sectors of the Canadian economy are having difficulties.

“It is great for home owners and it is great for the provincial coffers. I think doing nothing is probably more appealing than doing something that might risk all the prosperity. At the federal level, it is even more clear that you don’t want to pull the plug,” Davidoff said.
