UBC Mandarin instructor Jenny Lu was interviewed for a Vancouver Sun article on the increase in business-driven language learners in B.C.
“When we start a class, we always ask people why they are studying the language,” Lu said. “These days, the majority of the students say they are doing it for business. We have investment advisors, real estate brokers, exporters interested in trade with China.”
She said most of the students in the Continuing Studies language program at UBC are already in the professional sector.
