Fentanyl pushes heroin off Vancouver streets

A story in the Globe and Mail focuses on how fentanyl has pushed heroin off Vancouver streets.

UBC’s Mark Haden from the school of population and public health was interviewed for the story. He compared the surge in the drug to alcohol prohibition which led to the creation of stronger, and often toxic, alcohol.

“Dealers will always want small packages. That’s the natural process of drug prohibition,” Haden said.

The story also appeared on CTV News, Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen, Calgary Herald, Vancouver Sun, The Province, iPolitics, Metro News and Castanet News.
