An uber-sized shift in the sharing economy

Mark Thompson, a professor emeritus at the UBC Sauder School of Business, was quoted in a Hill Times article on Uber’s economic impact.

“Uber gets a big edge in their profit margins by not having employees, by vigorously denying that they’re employees and saying that they’re independent contractors,” he said. “That’s a shift in the structure of our labour force and, given the way our taxes are collected, it’s something the federal government should be looking at.”
