Why we should care that many teens experience sexual difficulties

UBC gynecology professor Lori Brotto is calling for more support for teens experiencing sexual difficulties.

“Sexual problems are highly correlated with negative mood, anxiety, markers of physical health and overall quality of life. If an adolescent experiences sexual problems, they may also be at a higher risk of negative mental and physical health,” said Brotto in a Globe and Mail op-ed.

Brotto recommended providing teens with more resources and for health care providers to ask adolescent patients about sex-related difficulties.
