Experts grade premier’s forestry teaching moment

Experts commented on Premier Christy Clark’s recent conversation with kids, who told her they want to cut down fewer trees.

Instead of a simple answer, UBC education professor Robert VanWynsberghe told The Tyee that the Premier should have expanded the conversation.

“There’s more and more research that says we can actually talk to fairly young kids and get sophisticated explanations for the kinds of things they problematize,” said VanWynsberghe. “So we don’t say, ‘Well, this is a seven-year-old, so they can’t know anything about an issue.'”
