Touch a human brain, talk to scientists who study it

UBC neurologist Jon Stoessl talked about brain health ahead of the American Academy of Neurology’s annual meeting from April 15-21 in Vancouver.

Brain disease and related neurological and psychiatric conditions are the number one source of disability, Stoessl told the Vancouver Sun. Exercise, a healthy diet, social interactions and lots of sleep help to keep the brain healthy, he added.

“Eventually, if there is disease in the brain, the disease will win,” said Stoessl. “But if you’re able to adapt you may live for several years with no symptoms or minor symptoms compared to someone who doesn’t have that degree of plasticity or adaptability.”
