Opinion: A UBC we could all be proud of

UBC should be engaging in conversation about the future of the university now instead of waiting for a new president, says UBC history professor Anne Gorsuch in a Vancouver Sun op-ed. She proposed that the UBC Senates function as active public forums and encourage debates on substantive issues–not just curricular ones–and recommend expanded use of online forums.

“We won’t all agree about how to address issues of board governance, academic freedom, or divestment,” Gorsuch wrote. “The harm is not in asking difficult questions, but in not discussing them.”

This op-ed also appeared in the Ottawa Citizen.
