Space rock smashing into Jupiter captured by amateur astronomers

Two amateur astronomers captured the impact of a comet or asteroid that smashed into Jupiter earlier this month, reports CBC News.

UBC astronomer Brett Gladman said the object was probably comparable to the 45-metre wide meteor that exploded over Russia in 2013, injuring 1,000 people. As Jupiter is a big target, it’s hit much more often by asteroids or comets of that size than Earth.
