Over-the-counter remedies aren’t a good choice for preschoolers

Health Canada is reminding people not to give children under six over-the-counter cold medications, reports the Vancouver Sun.

These medications aren’t very effective, according to Health Canada.

Parents shouldn’t look to homeopathic cures for the sniffles either. According to Stephen Hoption Cann, a clinical associate professor at UBC, the evidence for homeopathy “is not very compelling.”

The risk is that caregivers might give children an ineffective treatment instead of seeking medical help when their child is seriously ill, said Cann.
