Sexual assault at UBC

The sexual assault on a UBC student last Friday could be related to recent reports of a campus prowler who had been spotted lurking in female shower rooms and residences, according to the RCMP.

UBC’s vice-president of students Louise Cowin said security had been increased Thursday night in the residences where the prowler had been seen.

The school issued a campus safety alert on Saturday, and the police and UBC campus security are investigating the assault and previous incidents.

UBC has implemented additional safety measures in the wake of a string of sexual assaults in the area in 2013–35 of 40 new security cameras have been installed and 80 emergency call stations have been added.
