Teen marijuana use in Canada in 12-year decline

A national study of Canadian teens has found that cannabis use is at its lowest level since 1990, reports the Vancouver Sun.

Study co-author and UBC professor Elizabeth Saewyc told the Sun that about 23 per cent of boys and girls aged 15 and 16 said they’d tried the drug. In 2002, 50 per cent of boys surveyed said they had smoked, and in 1998, four out of every 10 girls said they’d tried pot.

The survey also found that older teens are exercising less, with only one in five children in the survey engaging in enough physical activity to meet Canadian guidelines.
