Opinion: Canadian forestry sector needs rebuilding

Harry Nelson, an assistant professor and Ngaio Hotte, a resource economist in the faculty of forestry at UBC, are calling for change in Canada’s forestry sector to rebuild it at a time of free trade and consolidation.

In a Vancouver Sun op-ed, Nelson and Hotte called on government to reshuffle licenses and “restore opportunities for a larger number of small- and medium-sized profitable forestry businesses, including First Nations- and community-owned enterprises….Levelling the playing field for forestry in B.C. will make the industry stronger and more resilient.”
