Two fish species are becoming one in a small Island lake

The Times Colonist highlighted a UBC study on the evolutionary collapse of two species into one in a Vancouver Island lake.

Seth Rudman, a PhD zoology student at UBC, found that two species of fish in the lake started to interbreed following the introduction of crayfish into the lake. The two species disappeared, creating a new hybrid species. This suggests that human intervention could reduce genetic diversity, according to the research.
