Arbutus corridor deal

After a long dispute, the City of Vancouver has agreed to buy the Arbutus Corridor from Canadian Pacific Railway for $55-million, reports Global News. In the short term, the 9 kilometre-long corridor will be used as a greenway, but the long-term plan is for light rapid transit. UBC urban planning professor Patrick Condon warned of wasted opportunity if transit doesn’t materialise.

“This is highly suitable as a transportation corridor for rail and it would be waste if it’s just for joggers from the west side of town,” Condon said. “This is regionally significant.”
