Sugar tax

The proposed sugar tax recommended in a new Senate report wouldn’t help curb obesity in Canada, says UBC land and food systems professor Carol McAusland.

“Where we do have data [is on] the effect on soda tax, but the evidence suggests the impacts are small. Statistically, no different from zero,” McAusland told CBC On The Coast. “It’s not just sugary drinks that’s causing [obesity]. There’s processed sugar in lots of food that we eat.”
