Momentum mounts for medical marijuana

Research hasn’t kept pace with growing use of medical marijuana, according to University Affairs.

The article quoted a number of experts including UBC adjunct botany professor Jon Page, who noted that research is limited by cannabis’ status as a controlled substance, and by universities’ lack of access-controlled research facilities.

“University agricultural faculties or botany departments often have greenhouses or growth chambers where they’re growing corn, canola, grapes,” said Page. “It’s very hard to lock up one of those chambers so you can grow cannabis in it.”
