Ancient mud from Canada: New tool to combat “superbugs”?

Radio Canada featured UBC researchers’ discovery of the antibacterial properties of a mineral clay that’s been traditionally used by B.C. First Nations.

The clay has been used for thousands of years to treat ulcerative colitis, duodenal ulcer, arthritis, burns and other ailments. The researchers tested it in the lab and found that it combats microbial infections, including those caused by ESKAPE, a group of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
