Scrambled intersections, a system where all vehicles come to a stop to allow pedestrians to cross in any direction, could significantly increase pedestrian safety in Vancouver, said UBC traffic engineering expert Tarek Sayed in a 24 Hours article.
Sayed studies traffic patterns and safety, reviewing and recording near misses and close calls to obtain more data in a shorter time period than traditional methods of analysis.
