UBC law professor Efrat Arbel is available to comment on the Federal Court of Canada’s decision to strike down part of the country’s refugee policy as unconstitutional.
The court held that the law barring refugees from so-called “safe” countries (known as “designated countries of origin”) from appeals to the Refugee Appeal Division is discriminatory and violates the Charter’s section 15 equality guarantee.
