Senior officials from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries are meeting May 10-12 in Vancouver to discuss political, security, and trade issues with their Canadian counterparts.
As one of only 10 ASEAN dialogue partners, Canada cooperates with the regional group on political and security issues, economic interests, interfaith dialogue, disaster risk reduction and other mutual concerns.
The delegates will take time off from their meetings to tour the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia, one of North America’s most extensive collections of First Nations art, and to attend a reception hosted by UBC President Arvind Gupta.
“UBC has one of North America’s highest concentrations of expertise on Southeast Asia, allowing it to act as an important partner in Canada-ASEAN relations,” said Yves Tiberghien, director of UBC’s Institute of Asian Research. “We are committed to increasing our engagement with this rising region on all dimensions — research partnerships, student mobility, and two-way dialogue on policy issues.”
