Electrical and computer engineering professor David Michelson and Telus chief technology officer Ibrahim Gedeon received the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Conference Leadership Award for their efforts in co-chairing IEEE’s 2014 Vehicular Technology Conference in Vancouver. The event brought together over one hundred engineers and managers from Metro Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest to discuss and exchange ideas in the fields of wireless, mobile, and vehicular technology. PhD student Anastasia Hyrina has been awarded the 2015 International Society of Antiviral Research (ISAR) – Women in Science Career Development Award. Hyrina is invited to present at the 28th International Conference on Antiviral Research in Italy in May where she will receive the ISAR award which involves a $1,500 stipend, a two-year ISAR membership and a commemorative certificate. The award supports the professional development of women with potential for significant contribution in the field of antiviral research.
During UBC’s fifth annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition, graduate students have given more than 100 outstanding presentations, informing an audience about their graduate research in just three minutes. After more than six weeks of competition, the top eight finalists will advance to the final round. The first place winner will go to the regionals to contend for national honours in a virtual competition.

A photo exhibition of the World Food Programme (WFP) titled “The Importance of Nutrition” shows how increasing access to healthy and nutritious food saves lives.
This exhibition is part of the UBC Future of Food Global Dialogue Series, which brings together food security and sustainability experts from across North America to engage the UBC community and the public around global food security issues.
