Applied Science graduate students named 2014 Vanier Scholars

Applied Science students Jeremy Stone and Sahan Ranamukhaarachchi have won 2014 Vanier Scholarships for their innovative research ideas and leadership skills. They will receive $50,000 each annually for three years to support their post-doctoral work.

A PhD student in the School of Community and Regional Planning, Stone is concerned with how the discourse and ontology of “claiming” is intertwined with the process of gentrification.

Ranamukhaarachchi, an electrical and computer engineering PhD student, is investigating developing a pain-free, potentially self-administratED microneedle that can offer the same level of vaccination protection as a conventional syringe for significantly lower vaccine doses.
