Nursing professor emeritus celebrates a century

Verna Huffman Splane, School of Nursing honorary professor and one of Canada’s leaders in nursing and international health, turns 100 on November 23, 2014. From 1973 to 1981, Splane was the inaugural principal nursing officer in the Canadian Department of National Health and Welfare (the precursor of Health Canada), the highest office for a nurse in the country.
