Pharm Sci co-develops pharmacist module for medical record system

UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University have partnered to create a pharmacist module within OSCAR, the open-source electronic medical record (EMR) system.

The new module will support pharmacists working in care teams and is the first time that a made-in-Canada EMR contains both pharmacist and physician functionality. Many current EMR systems meet the specific needs of family physicians only. To learn more click here.

Recognition for honorary civil engineering professor

Honorary civil engineering professor Koji Sakai received the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Sustainability Award at its fall 2014 convention in Washington, DC on October 26. The award recognizes individuals who have “actively highlighted concrete’s role in sustainable construction.” Click here for more.

SALA student wins Philip Tattersfield scholarship

Anezka Gocova, a student in the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture’s Master of Landscape Architecture program, has received the Philip Tattersfield Scholarship for her essay “Seeing Potential: A Case for Edible Trees in Cities.” The B.C. Society of Landscape Architects (BCSLA) is awarding Gocova a $1,000 cash prize, and her essay will be featured in the December issue of BCSLA’s Sitelines magazine. Click here for more.

Engineers to host 14 Not Forgotten

In remembrance of the 14 women killed on December 6, 1989 at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal, the UBC Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS) will host 14 Not Forgotten, a memorial ceremony in their honour. Click here for more info.

Woodward Library celebrates 50 years

UBC Library invites faculty, staff, current and former students, alumni and community members to a series of events celebrating Woodward Library’s 50th anniversary from November 17 – 21. School of Nursing hosts nursing history symposium

The School of Nursing is hosting its annual Nursing History Symposium featuring guest speakers Linda Quiney and Mona Gleason.

The symposium is part of the school’s Consortium for Nursing History Inquiry led by nursing professor Geertje Boschma with the patronage of Helen Shore (BSN ’61, MA’ 71).

Quiney’s research looks at the role of military nurses during and after the first World War. Gleason specializes in the history of children and youth and the history of education. Read more about Quiney and Gleason’s research here.

Food for Fines nets $4,304

This year’s UBC Library and Alma Mater Student Society Food for Fines Campaign raised a total of $4,304.00, a more than 40 per cent increase from last year. Non-perishable food items were collected at circulation desks and distributed to the AMS Food Bank. More than 2,100 items were donated this year.
