VSE professor’s World Happiness Report receives international award

UBC Vancouver School of Economics’ Professor Emeritus John Helliwell and his World Happiness Report co-editors Richard Layard (London School of Economics) and Jeffrey Sachs (Columbia University) have received the 2014 International Society for Quality of Life Studies (ISQOLS) Award for the Betterment of the Human Condition.

The first World Happiness Report was prepared to support the April 2012 United Nations’ high-level meeting on happiness and well-being and has been downloaded nearly one million times. The second, World Happiness Report 2013, has been downloaded 1.3 million times.

Since the report’s inception, governments have started to take steps toward measuring the happiness of their populations. The World Happiness Report 2015 will be launched in New York in April 2015.
