Note to reporters/assignment editors: Space at the pep rally is very limited and media authorization is required to attend. A media feed will not be provided.

Students will begin their day in small groups, taking part in community building activities, campus tours, and meeting their faculty deans and professors. In the afternoon, they will gather for a pep rally at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, and be welcomed by new UBC President Arvind Gupta.

Students can then visit the Main Event, where information booths from more than 350 student clubs and campus resources line Main Mall, along with food, games, giveaways, and live performances.

The Main Event will also feature the real-time creation of a billboard-sized digital mosaic, as students from UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses share photos through social media using the #IAMUBC hashtag.

President Gupta will attend the unveiling of the mosaic at 4:15 p.m. at Main Mall and Agricultural Rd.

UBC’s Okanagan campus will welcome more than 1,500 first-year students with the Create orientation program. A highlight is the annual Colour Me UBC run at 3:30 p.m., where students get blasted with blue and gold colours as they compete in a number of fun challenges.
