New senior associate dean of Faculty of Education appointed

Dean Blye Frank at the Faculty of Education announces the appointment of Pam Ratner as senior associate dean, Administration and Innovation for a two-year term starting September 1, 2014. Her mandate is to provide high-level support and advice in the areas of administration infrastructures and innovation, and to assist with the ongoing development and implementation of UBC’s strategic plan.

Ratner’s research is based in socio-behavioural epidemiology and psychometrics and focused on heart disease risk reduction. She is an elected fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

Engineering and Sauder student business venture takes second at international competition

Santé West, a start-up by engineering and commerce students from the UBC New Venture course, won second place at the 2014 Virginia Tech Global Student Business Concept Challenge competition and received a $5,000 prize for their business plan. Santé West’s main product is a leg brace that helps recovery from lower leg injuries. Click here for more info.

Pharm Sci building wins Vancouver Regional Construction Association Silver Award

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Building has been recognized with a 2014 Vancouver Regional Constructions Association Silver Aware of Excellence. Keith Plumbing and Heating Co. Ltd. won for their work on the Pharm Sci building in the mechanical contractors over $3 million category. To read more, click here.
