With three weeks until the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games at UBC, athletes with intellectual disabilities from Team BC are participating in training camps to build on their home-field advantage. These events are the last opportunity for Special Olympics BC athletes to train at their competition venues with their coaches and volunteers.

Bocce and track and field teams will train at UBC venues just south of the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sport Centre on Saturday, June 14.

UBC men’s volleyball player Chris Howe will be volunteering at the bocce training camp. This is the first time bocce has been included in the National Games and two of the athletes representing B.C. are from Salt Spring Island where Howe grew up.
