Statisticians receive Statistical Society of Canada awards

Two UBC statisticians have been recognized by the Statistical Society of Canada. Jiahua Chen, a Canada Research Chair in the Department of Statistics, received the Gold Medal of the Statistical Society of Canada. Chen’s research contributions in statistics include experimental design, sampling theory, empirical likelihood, mixture models and applications in genetics.  John Petkau received the Statistical Society of Canada Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work.  Petkau has focused on the development and application of statistical methodology for clinical trials for multiple sclerosis (MS) therapies, seeking to improve how the trials are designed, executed and analyzed.
