History prof wins SSHRC grant for African film project

History professor Julie MacArthur has won a $20,000 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Connections Grant to fund an African film series project in Vancouver. Macarthur will serve as program director and curator for The New Wave in African Cinema, a film series that will screen 10 feature films and 10 short films in Vancouver from Nov. 1-7. Directors from across Africa will participate in the week-long event that will include workshops and panel discussions.

The series is a joint production of UBC and The Cinematheque, and funded by UBC African Studies, The Cinematheque, Liu Institute for Global Issues, and SSHRC. View full program details here.
